I love that it doesn’t give me a happily ever after in the story, but with the close of the book, I feel emboldened to make it be a happy ending in real life. The story Woodson has written is almost poetic in its telling, as most of her works tend to be. The book tells the story of a young girl and her friends who are not nice to a new girl, who they view as different and weird. There is not much more to add to this book in a review. Each Kindness is the perfect book for building community from the very first week of school. And lack of kindness, even in inaction, hurts everyone. Each kindness truly does change the world. Every heart, young and old, needs to hear this book. This is a really hard book to read, especially aloud. children in our lives about topics like empathy, compassion, kindness, and inclusion.
